CIE Examinations May/June 2016

Dear Parents,

Kindly note down the following points for the CIE examination May/June 2016 and make arrangements accordingly.

  • Exam Fee Bill due date will be 1st week of January 2016.
  • March 2016 & April 2016 fee bills will be payable in March 2016.
  • May 2016 & June 2016 fee bills will be payable in April 2016.
  • Statement of entries will be issued in April 2016 after obtaining clearance from accounts office.
  • Only those students exam entries will be sent who will overall achieve 50% .
  • If a student pays fee but fails to qualify then fee will be refunded.
  • Just depositing fee does not give guarantee that exam entry is sent.
  • Deadline should be followed strictly.
  • In case of any problem approval in advance must be obtained from the Principal.

Guidelines School Prefect Ship

Responsibility of school Prefect Board

The prefect Board shall

  1. Provide a policy and guidelines defining the aims and mission of its prefect system.
  2. Create awareness amongst students and staff on the management of school elections, ensuring fairness, equity and uniformity.
  3. Provide a code of conduct and eligibility for student candidates for prefect posts.
  4. Publish the above documents on all notice boards, in the first term.
  5. Publish the specific prefect posts, and terms of reference for each, including qualifications for legibility.
  6. Create and publish an appeal system. The appeal board being impartial, neutral persons.
  7. Punish those who contravene rules, regulations and codes of conduct after consulting the prefect board patron.
  8. Form an elections committee that shall include administration, staff and students. This committee shall be sensitized in the organizational procedures and conduct.
  9. Develop student council as part of the social tradition of the institution, with election activity included in the school calendar.
  10. Recognize that prefects are students, not workers, thus teachers shall cooperate with prefects as mentors, supporting, encouraging, guiding and counseling in order to develop sound leadership skills, social values and an orderly and fair school community.
  11. Appreciate that prefects cite a most difficult aspect of their position being humiliation from staff and administration that undermines their post and relationship with fellow students.
  12. Ensure that teachers and staff are adequately aware of their own role in mentoring prefects, giving due regard and respect recognizing the challenging duty they have undertaken.

REQUIREMENTS FOR PREFECTSHIP

 Qualifications and experience

  1. Academic record must be above average.
  2. Behavioral record must be exemplary, including absence or attendance record
  3. Student must be registered in year four or lower six and have attended the school for >2 years.

Personal skills and aptitudes

  1. Self-confident: be bold and assertive.
  2. Ability to speak in public, to students and adults.
  3. Team working skills.
  4. Be organized and resourceful.
  5. Be polite, honest, reliable, punctual and hardworking.
  6. Demonstrable interest and ability in the area of the post applied for, be it health, sport, music.

Accountability

  1. Prefects are ultimately responsible to the principal, level coordinators and prefect board in charge.
  2. On a day to day basis prefects are responsible to the concerned teachers as well.

Responsibilities

  1. Prefects must adhere to School rules and regulations at all times.
  2. The main duty of prefects and dormitory captains is to maintain an atmosphere friendly cooperative, peaceful, discipline and unity in the school.
  3. Prefects should serve as councilors to junior students.
  4. Prefects must liaise and collaborate with each other, as a team, to ensure efficiency and smooth running of their own area of responsibility and of the school as a whole.
  5. Prefects’ academic and behavioral standards must be maintained.
  6. Prefects will always work in the interest of the school.
  7. All discipline notes from prefects must be reported to the Principal and level coordinators.

Limits to authority

Implementation of discipline is carried out by school authorities (e.g. Principal, Level Coordinator and Teachers). School authorities can use the services of prefects for supervision only.

General rules and regulations for prefects

The student community is called to live together in peace and discipline, to respect the rights of each and every one in the community.

  1. Prefects shall carry a sash that distinguishes their office of service.
  2. Each prefect shall have a document defining his/her area of competence, roles and duties.
  3. Prefects shall, in discharging their duty, act in love, assuming the role of senior brother/sister to the junior ones placed in their charge.
  4. The head prefect shall consult with the school administration on matters of policy, and sanctions.
  5. Prefects shall promote discipline in all their domains, coordinated by the head prefect.
  6. Prefects will ensure the smooth functioning of the school in matters of peace, order and discipline and strict respect of school rules and regulations without fear or favor.
  7. The school administration will arrange prefects meetings to improve renew and concert on matters affecting the day to day student life in the community.
  8. The prefects shall show integrity, who will teach by examples respecting the rules and regulations of the institution.
  9. The prefects will respect hierarchy, honor and obey their teachers and at no time will they bypass the administration.
  10. The prefects must give students appearing to have broken rules or regulations, an opportunity to give themselves a fair hearing, so they are corrected in love to avoid any future occurrence of the offence.
  11. The prefects shall not use their authority to their friends for favoritism.
  12. They will in all school activities lead and serve.
  13. The prefect will in everything represent the school image positively. He/she shall ensure the pursuit of academic excellence and orderly behavior.
  14. His/her moral and academic life shall always be a model for the student community to emulate.

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR STUDENT ELECTION CAMPAIGNS.

  1. School rules are to be followed at all times, including any schedule for campaigning.
  2. Violations of rules and regulations and codes of conduct shall be punished.
  3. Campaign speeches will contain only attainable proposals, and no insults or criticism of opponents.
  4. Candidates and their representatives or supporters are forbidden to use any kind of intimidation, threats, materials, food or financial inducements, with the aim of influencing votes.

GENERAL PROVISIONS

  1. In the case of a tied vote, a re-run will be held. If there is still a tie then the head of institution will have the casting vote.
  2. When a candidate runs for more than one position, and in their second or third choice turns out to be the only candidate the school authority must respect the student’s choice and make an appointment for the others.
  3. Any individual with a grievance concerning any aspect of the elections is free, and shall be encouraged to submit a written complaint following the school’s published appeal procedure.

 POST ELECTION COORDINATION, MANAGEMENT AND SMOOTH RUNNING OF PREFECT TEAMS.

Our prefect systems are to be treated part of the educational provision of SMA. We encourage students to be prefects, because it is a learning opportunity, a chance to gain skills and experience that serve as an additional qualification when they graduate. Research has shown that a majority of successful professionals, in business, management and other areas, participated in student government/Council while at school. Many young people confirm that being a prefect was difficult and challenging, but that they benefited later in life, through success gaining employment and posts of responsibility and leadership – they appreciate the skills they built as a result of being a prefect.

Dear Parents,

Greetings from Saint Mary’s Academy

First Term examinations 2015 have come to an end and the 2nd Term of the school year 2015-16 is commencing from 7th September 2015 for the classes Playgroup to 10.

F.Sc and A-Level classes have started from 3rd August 2015.

PTM:

  • A gentle reminder that the PTM for the Initial Term Examination 2015 of classes Playgroup to 10 will be held on Saturday, 12th September 2015 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 Noon.
  • The parents are requested to come at the allotted time to avoid long waiting hours.

PICK & DROP:

  • The parents/ van drivers are requested to drop-off students in the parking area and not outside the school or on the road.
  • At dismissal time, the parents have a choice of either picking up the children from their classes or from the parking area and NOT FROM OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL, children will not be allowed to stand on the road to be collected by the parents/ van drivers.
  • No student is allowed to stand outside the school gate or on the road.
  • The parents/ guardians are requested to bring the 2nd student I.D. card with them while picking the child before off-time.

CURSIVE WRITING:

  • We are starting the first phase of learning/practicing CURSIVE WRITING for classes 1 to 7.
  • The first printed copy of cursive writing will be given free of cost to the student but Rs.60/- will be charged for additional copy.

SPORTS:

  • The tentative date for beginning of sports is Saturday, 19th September 2015.

EID-UL-AZHA HOLIDAYS:

  • The tentative dates for Eid Holidays are from 23rd September to 27th September 2015 (both days inclusive).

OTHER ACTIVITIES:

  • This is to inform you that a Book Fair will be held for students in Room #4 during school time on 14th, 15th and 16th September 2015.

Dear Parents, 

Greetings From Saint Mary’s Academy

The 1st Term of the school year 2015-16 has come to an end. 1st term examinations are starting from 24th August 2015 for senior classes (8 to 10) and from 27th August 2015 for primary and middle classes.

Thank you for valuable suggestions you have put forward during Parent Teacher Meeting on 6th June 2015 for the progress of the school. The administration will surely pursue and take them into consideration.

SUMMER VACATIONS:

Summer vacations are starting from:

  • Playgroup, Nursery and Prep: Saturday, 5th June 2015
  • Classes 1 to 10: Saturday, 13th June 2015

Kindly submit Summer vacations homework on Friday, 7th August 2015 between 8:00 am to 12:00 noon.

SUMMER SCHOOL/ CAMP:

  • Summer school is scheduled for classes 9 (Matric & Camb.), 10 (Matric & Camb.), F.Sc-II (2nd Year) and A2 from 3rd August 2015.
  • Summer timings will be followed i.e. from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm.

OFFICE TIMINGS:

  • Office timings during summer vacation will be 9:00 am to 11:00 am for public dealing.
  • Office will be closed for Eid/Summer Holidays from 11th July 2015 to 19th July 2015 (both dates inclusive) and will reopen on 20th July 2015.

OTHER ACTIVITIES:

  • “Planting Day” will be organized for Senior students in August 2015 by Kar-e-Khair Development Program.
  • A National flag raising ceremony will be held at Saint Mary’s Academy at 8:00 am on 14th August 2015.
